Value Investing the Buffett Charity Lunch

From Santangel's Review:
The Buffett charity lunch bidding has begun. Some bidders have remained anonymous, others have used it to promote themselves, and one in particular got himself a decent new job out of it.
The most interesting footnote, though, is the astute investor who paid a mere $250,100 in 2003. In the ten years since this bidder won, the price of the lunch has appreciated to a peak of $3.46 million, a 30% CAGR.
The name of this 2003 bidder: David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital.
